The Internet Computer (ICP) is a blockchain protocol developed by the DFINITY Foundation that aims to extend the functionality of the internet by allowing developers to build decentralized applications (dApps), websites, and services directly on the blockchain. Unlike traditional blockchains, which primarily focus on financial applications, ICP seeks to decentralize the entire internet by enabling smart contracts and other decentralized services to run at web speed with lower costs. The ICP token is used to pay for computation and storage on the Internet Computer network. The platform is notable for its scalability, aiming to support the next generation of web applications and decentralized services.
